A Walk Through History: Vigan

Vigan is a UNESCO World Heritage City in the Philippines, famous because it is the best-preserved example of an old Spanish colonial town in Asia. Visiting Vigan is like stepping directly into the 18th century.

The main attraction is Calle Crisologo, a street paved with cobblestones and lined with old, traditional houses. These buildings are known as bahay na bato (stone houses) and show a mix of Spanish, Chinese, and Filipino architectural styles. They are recognizable by their big, sliding windows made of capiz shells.
To get around the historic area, tourists ride a kalesa (horse-drawn carriage), as modern cars are not allowed on the main heritage streets. Walking here is the most popular activity, especially at night when the whole street is lit up by antique lamps, creating a beautiful and peaceful scene.

Beyond the famous street, you can visit the main square, Plaza Salcedo, to see the St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral and enjoy the nightly Dancing Fountain Show. There are also several old ancestral homes, like the Crisologo Museum, that have been turned into museums for the public to explore.

Finally, Vigan is a great place to eat authentic Ilocano food. You must try the local specialties: Vigan longganisa (a strong, garlicky sausage), crispy bagnet (deep-fried pork), and the brightly colored Vigan empanada. You can also watch local craftsmen make traditional earthen burnay jars at the Pagburnayan pottery factory.
Vigan offers a simple, beautiful, and deeply historical experience, making it a truly unique stop for any tourist in the Philippines.

The Heritage City of Vigan is a place where it feels like the past is still alive. But in January, the city changes into a place full of bright colors, loud music, and big parties. ICT Second Quarter Reflection

The second quarter was a time of big learning for me, especially about how to build things on the internet. The most important thing I discovered was how to correctly use the different kinds of tag attributes. I learned that these attributes are special extra instructions that you add inside a tag to make it change. They tell the tag what color to be, how big to be, or where to go on the page. Getting to know these special instructions has helped me take much better control of the web pages I am learning to make. It was a major step forward from just knowing the basic tags themselves.
